Starting a series with over a thousand episodes and nineties-style animation is enough to scare off any modern fan. This Thursday, the head of WIT Studio, George Wada, broke his silence regarding the true reasons for creating the new pirate anime titled The One Piece. The executive confessed that the original idea came directly from the story's creator, who felt that his work already looked too old for new generations.

An outdated anime for young audiences

Mangaka Eiichiro Oda was deeply concerned about the future of his franchise. Wada explained in a recent interview that the author felt it was a shame that today's teenagers were rejecting his manga because the television series began more than 25 years ago. To prevent new otakus from missing out on this great adventure, the creator requested a completely fresh version, using the best colors and modern animation technology.

Full speed ahead and zero slow scenes

The best news for fans is that this new version will fix the classic series' biggest problem: its frustratingly slow pacing. The studio head promised that the story will move much faster. Basically, they are going to cut out all those boring, dragged-out scenes that made episodes feel tedious. The team will focus on keeping only the most important and entertaining parts of the plot, giving us a direct, to-the-point experience.

Respect for the original story

Even though everything will look more modern and faster, the story will not change at all. The project is working hand-in-hand with the author to preserve the personalities of his characters. To make it crystal clear, here is what we know about the new production so far:

  • Back to the start: The series will start from zero, beginning with Luffy's first adventures in the East Blue.
  • Super visual quality: WIT Studio will use the same spectacular level of artwork that made them famous in other action anime.
  • No studio rivalry: The creators of the original anime support this project. The idea is for both versions to exist simultaneously to attract a larger audience without stepping on each other's toes.

Seeing that they will finally remove the boredom and slow pacing from the story's first chapters, would you be encouraged to watch this new remake or do you prefer to continue watching the original series with its thousands of episodes?
