MAPPA Announces Jimoto Saikō! Anime Adaptation for Netflix
The dark and gritty manga about survival in a dangerous hometown is coming to the small screen

We love a good surprise on a Friday morning. During the MAPPA 15th Anniversary Lineup Reveal livestream, a new project grabbed everyone's attention. Jimoto Saikò!, the manga created by usagi, is officially getting an anime adaptation. We are talking about a story that doesn't hold back. It explores the darkest corners of a neighborhood where most people wouldn't dare to walk at night. Netflix will be the home for this worldwide release, bringing these tough girls to our screens.
A neighborhood full of challenges

We meet Chanel, our main character. She lives in a place she calls home, but it is far from a paradise. Imagine a town where every corner hides a new danger. We are looking at a realistic, albeit exaggerated, depiction of violence, drugs, and poverty. It is a cocktail of chaos. Chanel and her friend Chihiro have to navigate this mess every single day. Their upperclassmen aren't exactly role models either; they are covered in tattoos, love a good fight, and drink way more than they should. It sounds like a typical Tuesday for them, right?
The story started in a very modern way. usagi first shared these adventures on X (formerly Twitter). People loved the raw energy of the panels. Soon, it became a phenomenon. Saizusha started publishing the physical volumes back in 2022. By 2025, the series had already reached its eighth volume. We think it is hilarious how a title that translates to "Hometown is the Best!" features so much crime. Irony is definitely the main dish here.
The creative team behind the chaos
MAPPA is celebrating 15 years, and they are not slowing down. For this project, they have gathered a specific team to capture the manga's unique vibe. We also got a taste of the atmosphere through a promotional video featuring the song "milk" by aiko. It creates a strange, captivating contrast with the visuals.
- Production: The powerhouse MAPPA is in charge.
- Platform: It will stream globally on Netflix.
- Origin: Based on the web manga by usagi.
- Vibe: Dark humor mixed with social commentary.
Will Chanel and Chihiro survive?
We often wonder how characters in these settings keep their spirits up. In Jimoto Saikò!, the struggle is the point. It is about survival in an environment that wants to pull you down. The discrimination and the lack of opportunities are real hurdles. Yet, there is something magnetic about watching these girls deal with the "evils of the world" with such grit. Are they heroes? Probably not. Are they survivors? Absolutely.
We are excited to see how MAPPA translates the rough art style of the original posts into a full-blown animation. It is a bold choice for an anniversary lineup, and we are here for it. It reminds us that anime can be more than just magic and high school romances. Sometimes, it is just about getting through the day without getting into a brawl.
What do you think about this gritty premise? Do you prefer your anime with a bit of social edge or do you like escaping to fantasy worlds? Tell us your opinion!
