The animation for this period piece was handled by the studio CygamesPictures. The general direction of the project belongs to Toshimasa Kuroyanagi. The original artwork is being adapted for the television format by character designer Keigo Sasaki. To provide a level of immersion and authenticity to the series' setting, Satoshi Nemoto was specifically hired to handle the calligraphy and traditional on-screen signage.

The update was accompanied by a large wave of confirmations for the main voice cast, adding veteran talent to accompany the story's central protagonist:

Kazuto Mihara began publishing this historical narrative through the pages of Morning magazine, under the Kodansha editorial seal, in March 2021. The work masterfully captured the artistic foundations of Japan, concluding its official serialization in November 2022. The complete story was compiled into a total of six printed volumes that served as the direct basis for the pre-production of this anticipated animated project.

World Is Dancing Synopsis

The plot transports us to feudal Japan in the year 1374, right in the middle of the prolonged and chaotic conflict between the Northern and Southern Courts. In this turbulent era, Oniyasha is born, a young man belonging to a family of sarugaku theater performers. The boy spends his days immersed in a silent melancholy, haunted by a persistent question: why do people dance? His perspective on the world changes drastically the day he witnesses a dance that he considers truly "good." This event marks the beginning of the beautiful journey of a young man who, years later, would shape the art of Noh theater and go down in history under the legendary name of Zeami.

Do you think the animation studio will manage to capture the fluidity and mysticism of traditional Japanese dances without overusing CGI models?
