Some manga capture attention through awards and dedicated fans. Minoru Toyoda's Draw This, Then Die! launched in November 2021. It appeared in Monthly Shonen Sunday and Sunday Webry. By 2023, it won the 16th Manga Taisho awards and ranked number 6 in Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for male readers. January 2025 brought a win at the 70th Shogakukan Manga Awards. The ninth volume shipped on June 12. These milestones paved the way for animation.

The Core Story on a Remote Island

The plot centers on Ai Yasumi. This first-year high schooler lives on Izu Ōshima. Manga is her world. Her idol, reclusive Yasuno-sensei, appears rarely at Comitia. Ai seizes the opportunity to meet her. The resulting events challenge everything she believed about art, genius, and the act of creating.

Bringing It to Anime

Shinei Animation produced the series. Hiroaki Akagi directed, drawing from experience with The Dangers in My Heart and Teasing Master Takagi-san. Hiroko Fukuda handled series scripts, writing alongside Aki Itami and Kanichi Katō. Character designs came from Takekazu Segawa.

It premiered July 3 on NTV's Friday Anime Night at 11:30 p.m. JST. Crunchyroll streams simultaneously. The first season consisted of 12 episodes and concluded on Friday.
