Looting mystical tombs filled with deadly traps demands cunning, but traveling back in time to take revenge on those who betrayed you requires an absolute level of planning. The global expansion of South Korean works continues to gain ground on Japanese television with a remarkable production level. This Sunday, the company Kadokawa revealed a new character-focused promotional trailer for the Japanese dub broadcast of the animated series based on the popular webtoon, Tomb Raider King (Tokutsuo). The video confirmed the addition of new voice actors to the project and ratified that the series will begin its broadcast in Japan during the upcoming month of July via Fuji TV and Kansai TV.

The animation for this fast-paced story of revenge and magical artifacts was originally developed by Studio EEK, under the main direction of filmmaker Seung Wook Woo. The arrival of this production on Japanese television marks an important milestone, offering Japanese viewers the opportunity to experience the adrenaline of tomb raiders with a top-tier localization. The recent audiovisual preview not only showcased the protagonists' impressive combat skills but also served as a platform to introduce the local voices.

The official statement announced the new talents joining the series' main seiyuu cast, joining the already confirmed veterans Yoshimasa Hosoya (Ryoga Goriki), Saori Hayami (Irene Holton), and Junichi Suwabe (Taisei Ogawara):

  • Miyu Irino as Kotaro Yanagi.

An actor recognized worldwide for lending his voice to Sora in the Kingdom Hearts franchise and Shoya Ishida in A Silent Voice, now playing a skilled relic restorer and forger.

  • Nobuhiko Okamoto as Noboru Kureha.

An explosive and unmistakable voice in the industry, famous for portraying Katsuki Bakugo in My Hero Academia, now taking on the role of a low-level thug within this dark network.

About the work

The story has its narrative roots in South Korea, originating as a successful digital work that quickly dominated the webtoon format market. Its electrifying mix of constant action, time regressions, global mythology, and a morally gray protagonist catapulted it to international fame. This Korean animated adaptation with Japanese distribution seeks to capture the frenetic energy of the original panels, bringing the tension of modern labyrinth raids directly to the small screen.

Inside, legendary relics await, capable of granting superhuman and unimaginable powers to those who manage to claim them. Jooheon Suh (adapted as Ryoga Goriki in the Japanese version) is an intrepid explorer who makes a living looting these dangerous labyrinths. His existence ends abruptly when his greedy boss betrays him, leaving him at the mercy of certain death. Inexplicably, instead of perishing, the raider wakes up 15 years in the past, just before the tombs and relics appeared in the world. Armed with all the knowledge of the future, he decides to use his enormous strategic advantage to monopolize the best artifacts, become the ultimate raider, and execute a calculated revenge against those who ruined him.
