The Vermillion Mask Anime Reveals First Trailer and Premiere Date

Carrying the weight of an unforgivable sin is a relentless narrative engine, especially when guilt manifests through ancient artifacts that devour human will. Dark fantasy is set to gain a new high-caliber exponent on the small screen. This Thursday, the production committee behind the anime adaptation of the manga written by Dr.Poro and illustrated by Nabana Naba, The Vermillion Mask (Shuiro no Kamen), officially announced that the series will begin broadcasting in October 2026. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the story will be presented in two parts (cours), accompanied by a first teaser and a promotional image that define its bleak visual atmosphere.

The ambitious task of animating the visceral combat of this work falls to the studio 100Studio. Project leadership is in the hands of director Tetsuaki Watanabe, whose reputation grew exponentially after directing the successful first season of Blue Lock. On this occasion, Watanabe will have the support of Gai Hazako as assistant director. The series composition is the responsibility of Daisuke Ohigashi, while the original character designs are being adapted for the screen by Hisashi Higashijima. In the sound department, Fumiyuki Go takes on the audio direction, backed by a soundtrack composed by the acclaimed Arisa Okehazama, recognized for her recent and masterful work on The Apothecary Diaries.

About the work

Creators Dr.Poro and Nabana Naba began serializing this raw odyssey of redemption in the pages of Shonengahosha's Young King Ours magazine in February 2021. The work has managed to captivate readers with its grotesque creature designs and its psychological focus on the responsibility for acts committed under external influence. The commercial success of the print format allowed for the release of its eighth compiled volume in Japanese stores during July 2025, remaining one of the editorial's fantasy pillars to this day.

The Vermillion Mask Synopsis

The narrative revolves around Peru, a young and talented apprentice mask maker whose life is shattered following a catastrophic incident. Upon coming into contact with a cursed mask of untold power, Peru completely loses control over his actions, plunging into a frenzy of violence that ends the lives of his own master and all his workshop colleagues. Awakening in the midst of the carnage and consumed by absolute remorse, the young artisan embarks on a lonely and dangerous journey across the world. His sole objective is to locate and destroy each of the legendary masks his master created in the past before they fall into the wrong hands or claim more innocent souls. Along his path, Peru must face enemies seeking the power of these relics and fight the darkness that still resides within him, in a battle where the salvation of his soul and the fate of the world hang by a thread.
