The Space Isekai Reborn as a Space Mercenary Reveals Trailer and Cast

Reincarnating in a medieval fantasy world to defeat the Demon King is common practice, but waking up at the helm of the galaxy's most powerful and destructive starship is a highly refreshing twist for the isekai genre. This Tuesday, the official website for the anime adaptation of the sci-fi light novel written by Ryuto, Reborn as a Space Mercenary: I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship!, released its first promotional trailer. The brief video teaser revealed the production team, introduced the main voice cast, and confirmed that the series will begin its broadcast on Japanese television during the upcoming October season.

The production of this ambitious intergalactic journey is being handled by the animation studio Studio A-Cat. The main director's chair is occupied by Norihiko Nagahama, while the complex task of series composition falls to Takamitsu Kono. The original character designs are being adapted for animation by artist Masami Sueoka. To ensure that the space battles have the right sonic impact, Jin Aketagawa takes on the role of audio director, backed by the monumental scores of composer Kenta Higashiohji.

The official announcement stood out especially for the reveal of the crew that will make up the main voice cast for this exciting sci-fi adventure:

Ryuto began serializing this unusual story through the independent web portal Shosetsuka ni Naro in February 2019, offering readers a breath of fresh air by moving isekai tropes to outer space. Its commercial success prompted publisher Kadokawa to release the work in physical format with color illustrations by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima in July of the same year. The novel enjoys excellent health in the Japanese market, having published its sixteenth volume in December 2025 and scheduling the seventeenth volume for this coming May 9th. Simultaneously, the franchise has a faithful manga adaptation illustrated by Shinichi Matsui that launched in November 2019 and has accumulated eleven volumes to date.

Synopsis of Reborn as a Space Mercenary

The plot follows the story of Satou Takahiro, an ordinary office worker who is suddenly sucked into the unforgiving universe of his favorite sci-fi video game. Far from waking up as a legendary hero with a sword and shield, Satou opens his eyes under the new identity of Hiro, a rugged space mercenary who possesses the most advanced, destructive, and powerful starship in the entire galaxy. Surrounded by lethal laser weapons and accompanied by beautiful companions, Hiro decides to leave the worries of his earthly life behind to make the most of this second chance. Sailing through the stars with no strings attached, the protagonist will dedicate himself to hunting dangerous space pirates, rescuing people in distress, and living an exciting life of freedom, money, and constant action in the darkest reaches of the cosmos.
