Dominating the world from the shadows requires immense power, flawless acting, and, above all, looking cool while pretending to be a regular background character. The self-proclaimed master of shadows is ready to take his elaborate farce to the big screen. This Saturday, during a massive panel at the AnimeJapan 2026 event, the production committee behind the anime adaptation of the acclaimed isekai franchise released a new video teaser for its first film, The Eminence in Shadow - Lost Echoes (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!: Zankyo-hen). The thrilling footage officially confirmed that the movie will hit theaters throughout the year 2027, accompanied by a striking promotional image that captures the seriousness and characteristic humor of the work.

To ensure this cinematic transition maintains the high animation quality, extravagant action, and carefully crafted comedy of errors, the committee has confirmed that the same animation studio responsible for producing the two successful television seasons will take the reins of the project. Similarly, much of the original technical and directing team is expected to return to keep the dark and attractive aesthetic that fans fell in love with intact.

The announcement at the event stood out especially for confirming the talents that will make up the main voice cast in this new adventure, including a highly anticipated addition:

  • Yukari Tamura as Yuka Asakura.

The legendary and experienced voice actress officially joins the franchise to bring life to this new and crucial character within the film's plot.

  • Seiichiro Yamashita as Cid Kagenou / Shadow.

The actor returns to masterfully portray the protagonist's double life: a teenager who fakes mediocrity by day and an omnipotent being by night.

  • Yui Horie as Akane Nishino.

The talented seiyuu reprises her important role from Cid's past life, promising to have enormous relevance in this new story arc.

  • Inori Minase as Beta.

The acclaimed voice actress returns to embody the loyal, intelligent, and devoted writer of the secret organization Shadow Garden.

  • Takehito Koyasu as Mordred.

The iconic voice actor will once again lend his unmistakable tone to play one of the story's formidable antagonists.

About the Work

The creative mind behind this ingenious success is author Daisuke Aizawa, who, accompanied by Tozai's spectacular illustrations, managed to give a fresh and ridiculously fun twist to the saturated reincarnation (isekai) genre. The story began as a successful light novel series that quickly made the jump to a high-selling manga adaptation. After dominating the social media conversation with its two acclaimed television anime seasons, this film project represents the franchise's first major cinematic expansion, generating huge expectations among the community.

Synopsis of The Eminence in Shadow - Lost Echoes

The franchise follows the life of Cid Kagenou, a young man obsessed with the idea of becoming an "Eminence in Shadow," someone who operates in secret and pulls the world's strings without anyone noticing. After dying in the modern world and reincarnating in a fantasy universe full of magic, Cid finally sees the opportunity to fulfill his dream. There, he secretly founds the organization Shadow Garden and begins recruiting powerful female warriors to fight against the "Cult of Diablos," an evil sect he invented himself as an excuse to play hero. The comedic twist lies in the fact that everything Cid invents turns out to be one hundred percent real, and his subordinates worship him as an omniscient genius while he continues to believe everyone is simply going along with his elaborate roleplay. In this new sequel film, Cid and his lethal squad will face mysterious enemies and completely new threats in a setting that will force them to deal with the echoes and unforeseen consequences of his past life.

Considering the massive revelation that the universe of Japan and the fantasy world are somehow connected, what kind of ridiculous explanation do you think Cid will come up with to justify the events that will occur in this highly anticipated movie?
