About the work
The origins of this unique franchise date back to 2011, when these charming characters originally debuted as illustrated mascots on commercial rice packaging in Japan. Their surprising popularity led them to star in everything from four-panel manga strips to light novels and promotional shorts. A curious detail of this new television adaptation is that it will present the seven sisters with an appearance approximately ten years younger compared to their original designs. The project paved the way for this premiere by airing a successful pilot episode titled "Ikinari Oinari Shobu" during 2023.
Komekami! Girls Synopsis
The series' narrative is deeply inspired by the ancient and beautiful Japanese belief that exactly seven deities reside inside every grain of rice. The story follows the adventures of the Komekami! Girls, seven inseparable sisters who happen to be the literal daughters of the Rice Goddess. The young girls reside in the quiet city of Usa, located in the picturesque Oita Prefecture. Their lives take an unexpected turn when their mother is called back to the heavens, leaving them alone in the earthly world with no possibility of immediate return. Aiming to mature and grow stronger, the seven sisters embark on a colorful journey across the entire Kyushu region. On their way, they will visit various Hachiman shrines, help solve locals' problems, discover the secrets of regional gastronomy, and occasionally find themselves involved in intense and fun culinary battles to defend the honor of food.
Do you think the folkloric charm and delicious culinary battles of these seven rice deities will manage to stand out in the always competitive spring premiere season?
