The complex task of reviving turbulent Kyoto falls to a technical collaboration between Live2D Creative Studio and Drive Inc., under the primary direction of Tomohiro Kawamura. Concept creator Yutaka Narui personally takes charge of the series composition and scriptwriting, ensuring his narrative vision remains intact on screen. The character designs, which blend historical rigor with modern aesthetics, are the work of Fumi Ebina. To provide an epic feel to the sword duels, the original soundtrack is being composed by the experienced Shigeru Kishida.

The announcement particularly stood out for revealing the addition of actress Nichika Omori, who will voice the peculiar cat Kurosuke, joining a main voice cast full of industry stars who will portray key historical figures:

  • Daisuke Sakuma as Tachikawa Jinsuke.

Actor responsible for bringing to life the amnesiac soldier desperately seeking a new purpose in the midst of war.

  • Yuki Kaji as Okita Soji.

The world-renowned voice actor will play the legendary and lethal Shinsengumi swordsman who saves the protagonist.

  • Koki Uchiyama as Hijikata Toshizo.

A deep voice that will embody the strict and feared vice-commander of the Mibu militia, known as the "Demon Commander."

  • Yuichi Nakamura as Kondo Isami.

Heavyweight actor who will bring his imposing tone to the charismatic absolute leader of the Shinsengumi.

  • Aoi Yuki as Koganei Hyogo.

Renowned actress who joins the ranks of the historical cast to bring dynamism to the faction's internal conflicts.

About the work

Unlike most current productions, Inherit the Winds is a story completely conceived for television. The project stems from an original idea by writer Yutaka Narui in direct collaboration with the production company Aniplex and creative assistance from Azuki Mashiba. To expand the reach of this universe before its television debut, it has been confirmed that the franchise will receive a manga adaptation in a four-panel (4-koma) format illustrated by artist Matsuri Muramatsu, which will begin free publication through Star Seas company's official Twi4 X (Twitter) account during the course of 2026.

Synopsis of Inherit the Winds

The plot immerses us in the turbulent streets of Kyoto during the final years of the Bakumatsu era, a time when the nation's fate hung on the edge of a katana. The story follows the footsteps of a mysterious soldier who, after a bloody incident, completely loses all his memories. Disoriented and on the brink of death, the man is rescued by Okita Soji, the brilliant and deadly captain of the Shinsengumi's first squad. With no identity or past to hold onto, Okita decides to name the amnesiac Tachikawa Jinsuke. Welcomed by the Mibu troops, Jinsuke will begin a new life surrounded by formidable warriors, training relentlessly while trying to discover who he really was and what his place is in a country on the verge of total revolution.

Considering the participation of legendary historical figures like Okita Soji and Kondo Isami, what kind of original twist do you think this amnesiac protagonist will bring to the real events that led to the fall of the Shinsengumi?
