About the work
Unlike the usual productions based on manga or light novels, Grow Up Show: Himawari no Circus-dan is a narrative and visual project created from scratch. It also represents one of the first major bets of the new animation label Psyde Kick Studio. This division was inaugurated by A-1 Pictures in early 2025 with the main goal of granting greater creative freedom to its artists and exploring fresh premises that step away from conventional trends, promising a visual quality capable of matching the spectacular nature of its acrobatics.
Synopsis of Grow Up Show: Himawari no Circus-dan
The plot transports us to a nostalgic representation of Japan between the late 1950s and early 1960s, a period of rapid economic growth where traveling shows were the pinnacle of popular entertainment. The story follows the small and humble Sunflower Circus company, led by its passionate ringmaster, Maria. Despite constant financial problems and difficulties keeping the tent afloat, the group dreams of winning a coveted spot in the prestigious international festival known as the "Circus Collection." The destiny of the modest troupe takes a radical turn when they cross paths with Mizuka Tsurumaki, an enigmatic and cheerful young woman with a monstrous and natural physical talent for acrobatics. Together, these tenacious artists must perfect their routines, overcome their fears, and defy gravity to turn their modest show into the biggest spectacle in the country.
Considering the historical setting and the focus on analog entertainment, what kind of classic circus routine are you most looking forward to seeing animated with the maximum level of fluidity by A-1 Pictures?
