Season 2 of From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman keeps moving forward, and now it arrives with a fresh trailer and two new names joining the cast. The latest promotional video confirmed two additions to the anime’s cast:

The new season premiered in Japan on July 8 in the IMAnimation W programming block on TV Asahi and its affiliated channels, airing at 11:45 p.m. It is also broadcast on AT-X and BS Asahi.

For global viewers, Amazon Prime Video began exclusive worldwide streaming on July 9. So if we were waiting to jump back into Beryl’s chaos, the door is already open.

The original story by Shigeru Sagazaki began on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in November 2020. Later, Square Enix published the light novel volumes with illustrations by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima.

The series follows Beryl Gardinant, a rural sword instructor who sees himself as nothing more than a modest older man. Then life flips the table. A former student reappears, he is appointed special instructor for the knights of the Liberion Order, and suddenly he is dragged from a quiet village into a much larger world. There, he reunites with former pupils who have become powerful knights, mages, and adventurers.

The central joke, and also the heart of the story, is simple: Beryl thinks he is ordinary. Everyone around him clearly disagrees. It is a strong setup, and it keeps paying off.

The manga adaptation and spinoffs

The franchise did not stop with the novels. Kazuki Satō launched the manga adaptation in Dokodemo Young Champion in August 2021. The broader series has also expanded with two spinoff manga, giving the world even more room to grow.

That kind of expansion usually says one thing: the audience is there, and it wants more.
