The franchise that revolutionized the magical girl genre by injecting high-intensity combat and sci-fi elements is ready to celebrate two decades of legacy in style. This Saturday, the production committee behind the 20th-anniversary project officially announced that the franchise's new anime, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance (Maho Shojo Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance), will debut on Japanese television on July 4th. The ambitious task of maintaining the impeccable level of magical action falls once again to studio Seven Arcs, with Takayuki Hamana returning to the director's chair. The franchise's original creator, Masaki Tsuzuki, is in charge of writing the story and structuring the scripts for this new era. Character designs feature the talent of Issei Aragaki (who also serves as chief animation director) based on original concepts by Shuichi Kawakami. The musical department will also shine brightly: iconic actress and singer Nana Mizuki will perform the Opening titled "CRIMSON BULLET" (for which she wrote the lyrics herself), while Hina Aoki will close the episodes with the Ending titled "Ephemeral".

The trailer also served to introduce the new faces starring in this installment and confirm the long-awaited return of the classic heroines in the main voice cast:

  • Azusa Tachibana as Shiina Kuze.

The actress responsible for voicing the story's new protagonist, a young hunter trying to protect her sister in an apocalyptic world.

  • Rina Hidaka as Setsuna Kuze.

The talented seiyuu will play Shiina's beloved younger sister, serving as the emotional anchor for the new heroine.

  • Yukari Tamura as Nanoha Takamachi and Nana Mizuki as Fate T. Harlaown.

The legendary voice actresses reprise their iconic roles, bringing back the most powerful and beloved veteran heroines of the entire franchise.

  • Kana Ueda as Hayate Yagami and Yukana as Rein Yagami.

Completing the classic trinity, these expert voices ensure that tactical and destructive magic remains present in the battles.

About the Work

Created by Masaki Tsuzuki and animated by Seven Arcs, the original television series debuted in 2004, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon for blending magical innocence with technological and tactical weaponry. After multiple successful sequels, compilation films, and spin-off series, this new installment serves as the definitive celebration of its 20th anniversary. As part of this expansion, the franchise had already launched a manga adaptation in April 2025 illustrated by Shuichi Kawakami, preparing the narrative groundwork for this anticipated animated premiere.

Synopsis of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance

30 years ago, Earth was pushed to the brink of absolute collapse following the sudden appearance of a violent and "invasive alien species." Today, humanity has barely managed to ensure its survival after decades of bloody battles for dominance over the planet, although the world still hangs by a thread. Terrified but refusing to lose hope, ordinary people try to lead peaceful lives while ignoring the constant danger. In the midst of this post-apocalyptic setting, the United Nations Research Agency, "EXCEEDS," deploys its best magical and military forces to combat the creatures. The story centers on the distant island nation of Mizuho, home to Shiina Kuze, a young hunter whose dangerous job is to eradicate the aliens that infiltrate the island. Shiina's only wish is to live a quiet life with her sister Setsuna, but fate, and an encounter with legendary magical warriors from the past, will lead her to the center of the conflict that will decide the final fate of humanity.

Considering that Nanoha, Fate, and Hayate will now fight in a near-apocalyptic environment, what level of tactical destruction do you expect to see when they unleash the full power of their magical devices in this initial one-hour episode?
