Magical Explorer Anime Reveals First Trailer and Confirms Fall Premiere

Reincarnating into the universe of your favorite erotic video game sounds like the ultimate fantasy for any visual novel fan, but waking up trapped in the body of the pathetic side character destined to be everyone's laughingstock is a cruel punishment. This Friday, the official website was launched for the anime adaptation of the hilarious fantasy isekailight novel written by Iris and illustrated by Noboru Kannatsuki, Magical Explorer. The portal published a first trailer accompanied by a promotional image that served to introduce the production team, the main voice actor, and confirm that the series will begin its broadcast during the upcoming fall season.

The complex task of animating this vibrant world of magic and monsters rests on the shoulders of the respected studio White Fox, famous in the industry for their masterful work on heavy-weight isekai franchises. The director's chair is occupied by Kazuki Ohashi, supported in the narrative by Satoko Sekine, who is in charge of the composition and structuring of the overall scripts. The original character designs are being adapted for animation by artist Ryosuke Kimiya. Additionally, the epic soundtrack that will accompany the battles and comedic moments is the work of acclaimed composer Kenichiro Suehiro.

Writer Iris began serializing this entertaining deconstruction of video game tropes through the massive independent web portal Shosetsuka ni Naro in February 2018. Its undeniable success and fresh sense of humor quickly caught the attention of the publisher Kadokawa, which began publishing the work in printed light novel format in November 2019. Its steady popularity allowed for the release of its twelfth compiled volume last October, with the thirteenth volume scheduled for release on April 1st. The franchise also features a successful manga adaptation illustrated by Yukari Higa, which has been published continuously since August 2020.

Magical Explorer Synopsis

The plot follows the wild experiences of a hardcore gamer who, after a twist of fate, loses his life and is reincarnated within the hyper-realistic universe of his favorite magic and erotic video game. However, his initial excitement turns into absolute despair when he looks in the mirror and discovers that he has not been reborn as the all-powerful main hero surrounded by a massive harem of girls and invincible skills. Instead, he has awakened under the identity of Kosuke Takioto, the protagonist's unfortunate and wimpy best friend—a character designed exclusively to be the comic relief and die on the sidelines. Flatly refusing to accept this humiliating fate, Kosuke decides to make the most of his encyclopedic knowledge of the game's mechanics, hidden items, and future events. Through pure effort and insane training, the "joke character" will seek to break the code of his own existence to become the most powerful mage in this dangerous fantasy world.
