The monumental task of updating this classic has been entrusted to the promising studio E&H production, under the general supervision and production of UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS. The project marks the major debut as lead director for Yui Miura, who will be supported by the experienced Shigeru Murakoshi in series composition and script structuring. CLAMP's beloved original designs are being reimagined for modern animation by artist Satomi Watabe. Furthermore, to ensure a truly epic and magical atmosphere, the original soundtrack is being composed by a high-profile trio led by the legendary Yuki Kajiura, joined by Takumi Ozawa and Shiho Terada.

To further heighten expectations, the announcement revealed the stellar trio of actresses who will take over to voice the legendary warriors of Cephiro in this main voice cast:

  • Ayane Sakura as Hikaru Shidou.

Actress recognized for her role as Ochaco Uraraka in My Hero Academia, taking on the role of the brave fire warrior and emotional leader of the group.

  • Rumi Okubo as Umi Ryuzaki.

The elegant and temperamental water warrior will be played by this talented seiyuu, famous for her work in Oshi no Ko and Fate/Apocrypha.

  • Rie Takahashi as Fuu Hououji.

The world-renowned voice of Megumin (KonoSuba) and Emilia (Re:Zero) will lend her sweetness and intelligence to the archer and wind warrior.

About the work

The acclaimed authors of CLAMP serialized this fantasy gem in the pages of Nakayoshi magazine by publisher Kodansha between 1993 and 1996, collecting the story into six successful volumes. The manga inspired a mythical original television series divided into two seasons that aired between 1994 and 1995, becoming a massive cultural phenomenon worldwide. After nearly three decades without a new television series for the franchise (excluding its 1997 OVA project), this remake promises to reintroduce the magic of its universe while respecting the drama and deep themes of friendship from the original work.

Magic Knight Rayearth Synopsis

The plot follows Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu, three eighth-grade students from different middle schools who coincidentally meet during a field trip to the iconic Tokyo Tower. Amidst a blinding flash, the three young girls are magically transported to Cephiro, a fantasy world literally sustained by the willpower and prayers of a single human pillar. Upon arrival, they are greeted by the master mage Clef, who reveals a terrible truth: the world is on the brink of collapse and total destruction because High Priest Zagato has kidnapped Princess Emeraude, the Pillar of Cephiro. Bewildered but endowed with mystic weapons and elemental powers, the three girls must unite as the legendary heroes, learning to work as a team and pilot giant Rune Gods (mechas) to rescue the princess and find a way back home.

Considering that the studio features the musical mastery of Yuki Kajiura, which classic combat moment in Cephiro are you most excited to see animated and scored with today's technology?
