The Insipid Prince's Furtive Grab for The Throne Anime Adds 4 Cast Members, Shares PV, Confirms July Premiere
Atsushi Tamaru, Ryōta Takeuchi, Mitsuki Saiga, and Kazuhiko Inoue join the Lakes Adler family as the series heads toward its summer debut

Some princes swing swords in the spotlight. Others move pieces like a chess player who refuses to flip the board—quiet, precise, and a bit smug about it. That’s where The Insipid Prince's Furtive Grab for The Throne (Saikyō Degarashi Ōji no Anyaku Teii Arasoi: Munō o Enjiru SS-Rank Ōji wa Kōi Keishō-sen o Kage kara Shihai Suru) is aiming, and now the anime has dropped a first promotional video plus a fresh batch of cast details ahead of its July debut.
July premiere locked, and the Lakes Adler family steps in

The TV anime is set to premiere in July. Alongside that confirmation, four additional cast members were revealed, all tied to the Lakes Adler name—because nothing says “imperial succession drama” like a family tree that looks like it was drawn during a deadline sprint.
The newly announced cast includes:
Atsushi Tamaru as Eric Lakes Adler
Ryōta Takeuchi as Gordon Lakes Adler
Mitsuki Saiga as Zandora Lakes Adler
Kazuhiko Inoue as Johannes Lakes Adler
We’ve also got that first PV in the mix, which is basically the show’s way of tapping us on the shoulder and saying, “Summer’s busy. Make room.”
Staff lineup: familiar hands steering the throne game
Behind the curtain, the production team is stacked with veterans. The anime is being directed by Yūji Yanase at Maho Film. The series composition and scripts are handled by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu. Character designs are in the hands of Kazuko Tadano.
When we see a staff list like this, we read it like a menu at a Murcia bar: we don’t need fireworks, we need something that’s made by people who know what they’re doing. And this lineup suggests they do.
What’s the story about? A “boring” prince with an SS-rank secret
The hook is simple and sharp. Arnold, the seventh Imperial Prince of the Adrasia Empire, carries a public label: “THE INSIPID PRINCE.” His twin brother is the celebrated genius, the kind of golden child who probably gets applause for breathing.
But Arnold has a private identity: SILVER, one of only fiveSS-rank adventurers on the continent. That’s not “rare,” that’s “if you blink, you miss the entire category.” When his younger brother Leo decides to aim for the throne, Arnold starts managing the succession struggle from the shadows to support him.
Then the story tosses in a complication with a straight face: the most beautiful lady becomes Arnold’s assistant. Political schemes, secret power levels, and office dynamics—like a spreadsheet that suddenly learns swordplay. The result is a behind-the-scenes power struggle where the “weak” prince is the one holding the strings.
From web novel to light novels to manga: the publication sprint
The series began life on Shōsetsuka ni Narō on February 3, 2019. It later moved into print under Kadokawa via the Sneaker Bunko imprint, with the first volume released in September 2019. As of now, the light novel count has climbed to 16 volumes, with volume 16 shipping on April 1.
There’s also a manga adaptation by Yukino Amagai, serialized on Young Ace Up. The manga has reached 9 volumes, with volume 9 published on November 10.
That’s a lot of runway for an anime: multiple formats, steady volume output, and a core premise built for episodic cliffhangers. If the throne is a mountain, this franchise has been packing supplies for years.
What we should watch for this summer
We’re heading into a season where “powerful protagonist” is everywhere. The difference here is the posture: Arnold doesn’t kick the door down; he locks it from the inside and hands you the key with a polite smile. That kind of restrained menace can be more fun than the loud stuff—like a silent fan in July that still saves your life.
Call to action: keep the PV on your radar, mark July on your calendar, and if you enjoy stories where the real battle is fought with reputation, positioning, and the occasional SS-rank surprise, we should be watching this one together.
