When you look back at the origins of a masterpiece, you often find that the seeds were sown decades before the world could finally see the fruit, much like a hidden treasure waiting for the right moment to be unearthed. LIDEN FILMS has recently breathed new life into this sentiment by revealing an expansive update for the upcoming television adaptation of Historie, the acclaimed manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki, which is set to grace our screens in January 2027.

A Narrative Tapestry Decades in the Making

It is fascinating to consider that the creator of the legendary Parasyte conceived this historical journey over 40 years ago, long before his professional debut, and I remember feeling a similar sense of anticipation when I first encountered his work in a small, quiet bookstore years ago. The story follows Eumenes, a brilliant young man destined to become the personal secretary and commander under Alexander the Great, and while we knew Nobunaga Shimazaki would lead the cast, the production has now introduced 11 additional voice actors to populate this ancient world.

The family dynamics will be anchored by Ryōta Suzuki as Hieronymous, the protagonist's brother, alongside Kazuya Ichijō and Yūko Kaida, who portray his parents, creating a domestic foundation for a tale that eventually spans empires. Wataru Takagi joins as the slave Charon, while the philosophical weight of the era is carried by Tsuguo Mogami, who takes on the role of the legendary Aristotle.

The Weight of a Prestigious Legacy

You might find it impressive that a series with over 4.7 million copies in circulation has managed to maintain such high critical standards, having secured the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2012 and most recently the 49th Kodansha Manga Award in 2025. This project is not merely an adaptation but the realization of a lifelong vision that first touched paper in a tiny studio more than 20 years ago, proving that some stories are like fine wine, requiring time to reach their full potential.

Expanding the Circle of Allies and Rivals

The newly released promotional video and teaser visual also highlight the friends who surround Eumenes during his formative years, including Miki Kariya as Perialla and Junya Enoki as Tolmides. Rounding out this impressive ensemble are Satoshi Tsuruoka, Anri Katsu, and Seiyū Fujiwara, each contributing to a cast that reflects the diverse social strata of ancient Greece, from philosophers to slaves, as the series prepares to navigate a path fraught with danger and historical significance.
