Alcohol, diving, and the most ridiculous situations of college life are ready to cross borders for the first time in the franchise's history. Bringing the chaos of anime's most dysfunctional group of friends to an international setting requires a double dose of energy and new faces. This Friday, the official website for the anime adaptation of the manga written by Kenji Inoue and illustrated by Kimitake Yoshioka, Grand Blue, released a new promotional trailer. The video confirmed that the third season of the series will begin its broadcast on Japanese television next July via TOKYO MX, BS11, and MBS.

The big revelation of this trailer was the addition of new talent to the voice cast. Renowned seiyuu M.A.O (famous for her roles in Fire Force and Princess Connect! Re:Dive) joins the project to voice Karina, a German woman passionate about Japanese culture who will cross paths with the protagonist. This new stage of the story is especially significant, as it marks the debut of the Palau arc, being the first time the narrative leaves the shores of Japan to explore foreign settings.

The official statement also confirmed the rest of the main seiyuu cast who will bring to life the residents and workers of the overseas diving branch:

  • M.A.O as Karina.

An enthusiastic German otaku whom Iori meets under peculiar circumstances and who joins the group of travelers.

  • Sayaka Ohara as Sayaka Kotegawa.

The experienced owner of the Palau branch of the Dolphin diving shop.

  • Asami Seto as Chief and Aya Suzaki as Maki.

The main work team in charge of welcoming the protagonists on their international adventure.

About the work

Since its debut in the pages of Kodansha's Good! Afternoon magazine in 2014, Grand Blue has established itself as the definitive reference for Seinen college comedy. The work has achieved a perfect balance between the sport of diving and the humor of extreme situations driven by the (sometimes excessive) consumption of spirits. Following the success of its first season in 2018 and a second installment that concluded last September with 12 episodes, the confirmation of this third season reaffirms the health of the franchise and the fans' desire to see the entirety of the original manga adapted.

Considering that this is the first time the group has left Japan, what kind of international disaster do you think Iori and company will cause on the peaceful beaches of Palau this July?
