Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Anime Confirms Third Season for 2027
The acclaimed fantasy series confirms its return with the Golden Land arc for October 2027.

The passage of time is a fleeting breeze for an immortal elf, but for viewers, every chapter of this journey is an indelible mark of melancholy and visual beauty. The wait for the next big step of the white-haired mage is over. This Friday, just moments after the final episode of its second installment aired, the production committee behind the anime adaptation of the manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Sousou no Frieren), officially announced the production of its third season. The new stage of the story, officially titled the Golden Land Arc, is scheduled to premiere on Japanese television in October 2027 via Nippon TV.

The revelation of this continuation occurred masterfully during the final scene of the second season. In this sequence, the character Denken was shown contemplating his homeland with sorrow, which has been completely transmuted into solid gold. The announcement was supported by the release of a promotional image featuring the imposing and enigmatic silhouette of Macht, one of the Seven Sages of Destruction and the central antagonist of this new arc. This third season will be responsible for adapting the narrative events that begin in chapter 81 of the ninth volume of the original manga, promising one of the most complex and emotional battles in the entire franchise.
About the work
Since its debut in the pages of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has established itself as a modern masterpiece of epic fantasy. Its slow-paced and profound narrative earned it the prestigious Grand Prize at the 2021 Manga Taisho, and to date, it has surpassed the impressive figure of 35 million copies in circulation. The animated adaptation has followed a meticulous production rhythm: the first season dazzled the world between September 2023 and March 2024, followed by a second installment that aired during the first quarter of 2026. With the confirmation of its return for late 2027, the series reaffirms its status as one of the current pillars of the industry.
Synopsis of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
The story introduces us to Frieren, a powerful elf mage who was part of the legendary group of heroes that managed to defeat the Demon King, bringing peace to the world. After ten years of adventures and the final victory, the group dissolves, but while her human companions age and pass away, Frieren barely perceives the passage of decades due to her longevity. After the death of her former leader, the hero Himmel, the elf begins to regret not having tried to better understand the ephemeral life of humans. Determined to redeem herself and learn about mortal feelings, she embarks on a new journey to the north accompanied by her young apprentice, Fern, and the brave Stark. In the Golden Land Arc, the group must face the curse of the demon Macht, who has turned an entire city into precious metal, forcing Frieren to decipher magic that defies all logic and morality.
Considering that Macht is described as one of the most powerful and philosophically complex demons in the series, do you think the confrontation in the Golden Land will surpass the emotional impact of the First-Class Mage Exam?
