Farewell to the Giant: Tokyo Says Goodbye to the Unicorn Gundam
The iconic life-size statue in Odaiba prepares for its final departure in August

We have a knot in our throats. Our giant friend is leaving and the news hit us like a bucket of cold water. Pucha, it feels like only yesterday when we first saw that metallic beast standing tall in Odaiba. The RX-0 Unicorn Gundam has been the king of the Diver City complex since 2017, but its time has come to an end. We are losing a piece of our otaku heart.

The end of an era in Odaiba
Asumadre, time really flies. This 19.7-meter tall mecha has been the guardian of Tokyo for almost nine years. It is not just a bunch of metal; it is a symbol for everyone who loves Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. We enjoyed every transformation and every light show as if it were the first time. The official announcement says it will be removed at the end of August. We have very little time left to say goodbye to this mostro of engineering.
Why is it leaving? Bandai hasn't given us a clear reason yet. It is a real shock because the place is always packed with people. Fans from all over the planet travel just to take a selfie with its massive feet. It is a mecha mecca that is about to go silent. Have you already planned your last visit to take one final photo?

What we will miss about the Unicorn Gundam
- The impressive 1:1 scale that makes you feel like a tiny ant.
- The night shows where the armor opens and glows in red or green.
- The feeling of being inside a real anime episode.
- The convenience of having the Gundam Base Tokyo stores right behind it.

A new project on the horizon
Don't cry just yet, because we have a small ray of hope. Bandai mentioned something called the Gundam Landmark Concept. They want to create a new attraction that will make fans from all over the world want to jump on a plane immediately. It sounds like they are cooking up something even bigger. Maybe a mecha that moves even more? Usually, when one door closes, a hangar opens.
We remember when the original RX-78-2 Gundam was taken down in early 2017. We felt the same emptiness back then. But six months later, the Unicorn appeared to heal our wounds. This cycle of metal and dreams seems to be part of the franchise's life. However, since the Yokohama moving Gundam also left for the Osaka Expo, Tokyo will be temporarily without a giant protector. What kind of mecha would you like to see standing there next?

The countdown has started and we are already feeling the nostalgia. This mecha was our lighthouse in the middle of the city. If you have the chance to be in Japan before August ends, don't miss it for anything in the world. Run to Odaiba and give it a proper send-off. We need to celebrate its legacy before it becomes just a beautiful memory. Go visit the Unicorn Gundam before it's gone!
