Demons' Crest Anime Reveals Its First Trailer and Main Cast
The anime from the creator of Sword Art Online reveals its first teaser, cast, and premiere window.

Getting trapped in a virtual reality game where your life is in genuine danger is a concept that revolutionized the industry over a decade ago. Now, the undisputed master of this subgenre returns to trap a new generation of players in a digital nightmare. This Sunday, the official website for the anime adaptation of the light novel written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by Yukiko Horiguchi, Demons' Crest, released a new promotional trailer. The video revealed the main production team, introduced the first members of the voice cast, and confirmed that the series will arrive on Japanese television during the year 2026.

The survival of these young players has been placed in the experienced hands of the studio Production I.G. The project's directorial baton is shared by Shinji Ushiro, who takes on the role of chief director, and Kenichiro Komaya as the main director. The structure of the deadly scripts is handled by Eiji Umehara. A highly notable technical detail is that Yukiko Horiguchi, the same artist responsible for the original novel's illustrations, is in charge of adapting her own character designs for the animation. To heighten the tension of the battles within the mixed reality environment, the monumental musical scores are a joint work by composers Yuki Hayashi and Naoyuki Chikatani.
The official announcement focused on revealing the vocal talents who will lead the main voice cast to play the siblings trapped in this lethal simulation:
- Haruka Shiraishi as Yuma Ashihara.
A voice actress recognized in the otaku community who takes on the difficult challenge of portraying the brave eleven-year-old protagonist who must lead his classmates through this digital hell.
- Konomi Inagaki as Sawa Ashihara.
An emerging young talent who will bring to life the protagonist's twin sister, whose body becomes the vessel for a powerful and demonic entity.
About the work
The legendary author Reki Kawahara, globally revered as the mastermind behind the colossal multimedia phenomena Sword Art Online and Accel World, began publishing this new virtual odyssey in November 2022. The literary work, which gives a much darker and more youthful twist to the death game concept, released its fourth compiled volume in Japanese stores during December 2024. Like its successful predecessors, the franchise already features a faithful manga adaptation being serialized simultaneously, expanding the universe of this disturbing gaming system.
Demons' Crest Synopsis
The plot closely follows an entire sixth-grade elementary school class who, after deciding to try a revolutionary new mixed reality game called Actual Magic, find themselves inexplicably trapped within its deadly digital architecture with no way to log out. What promised to be a harmless afternoon of fun quickly transforms into a brutal hunt for survival. The protagonist, an eleven-year-old boy named Yuma Ashihara, must protect his terrified classmates as they face colossal monsters and lethal traps. The situation reaches a point of no return when one of his friends is permanently transformed into a beast. The group's only hope lies in making a dark pact with a powerful demon named Valac, who decides to take absolute control of the body of Sawa Ashihara, Yuma's twin sister. Together, and armed with this unstable demonic power, the children must find a way to escape this sadistic labyrinth before the game claims them forever.
Considering the immense legacy that Sword Art Online left in the virtual survival genre, do you think Reki Kawahara's new story will manage to impact the industry in the same way when it premieres in 2026?
