The Cat and the Dragon Anime Reveals New PV, Key Visual, and 3 New Cast Members Ahead of July Premiere
Amara’s fantasy tale keeps growing: Atsumi Tanezaki, Chika Anzai, and Junya Enoki join the lineup as the adaptation prepares to land this summer.

We’re standing in that familiar pre-premiere hallway: posters on the wall, a new video playing on loop, and our calendars already sweating. The Cat and the Dragon just dropped a fresh “pick-up” promotional video plus a new key visual, and it comes with three shiny new cast reveals. July can’t come fast enough, can it?
New cast: three voices walk into a fantasy world

We got additions that feel like the kind of party members we’d recruit without reading the stats first (and then pretend it was strategy). The newly announced cast members are:
- Atsumi Tanezaki as Gally
- Chika Anzai as Anne Rossa
- Junya Enoki as Stan
And yes, we’re already imagining the dynamic: the serious one, the chaos one, and the one who says “I’ll explain later” and never does. Classic.
July premiere, with a production team built for momentum
The anime premieres in July, and the staff lineup reads like a well-packed travel bag: no clutter, all essentials.
- Director: Jin-Koo Oh (at OLM)
- Series composition / scripts: Mitsutaka Hirota
- Character design: Rie Nishino, Chiaki Kurakazu
- Music: Takahiro Obata
- Sound director: Noriyoshi Konuma
We’ve seen adaptations stumble when the basics aren’t locked in. Here, the basics look very locked in.
From web novel to million-seller: how this story kept leveling up
This isn’t a sudden hype balloon. The Cat and the Dragon has been building for years, step by step:
- It started as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in September 2013.
- The light novel edition began in April 2016, with illustrations by Mai Ōkuma.
- The light novels have reached 9 volumes, and the series has surpassed 1 million copies in circulation.
- A manga adaptation by Izumi Sasaki launched in September 2017 on Kono Manga ga Sugoi! web, later also running on Manga Box from April 2020.
- The manga has reached 12 collected volumes in Japan.
We love a long campaign that actually reaches the final boss. And we say that as people who still have unfinished save files.
What we should do next (before July sneaks up on us)
- Watch the new promotional video and see what tone it’s promising.
- Save the key visual (we won’t judge if it becomes a wallpaper).
- Pick your entry point: web novel, light novel, or manga—whatever fits your reading rhythm.
Now we want to hear you: which of the new cast additions are you most excited about, and what do we think the July premiere will bring—cozy fantasy, big adventure, or a bit of both?
