The anime Shiboyugi: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table announces its movie
The anime adaptation of the intense survival game confirms a sequel movie for July.

Participating in lethal tournaments for a living is a trade that allows no margin for error, and bringing that suffocating tension to the big screen is the logical next step for this unusual franchise. Survival games will raise their level of lethality this summer. This Saturday, the production committee behind the anime adaptation of the light novel series, Shiboyugi: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table, officially announced the production of a sequel feature film titled Cloudy Beach. The movie will have a limited two-week screening in Japanese theaters starting next July 10, and the news arrived accompanied by an exciting teaser trailer and a new promotional image.

To ensure that the transition from television format to film maintains its visual impact, the project will remain under the leadership of the animation studio Studio DEEN. The director's chair continues to be occupied by Sota Ueno, supported in series composition by Rintarou Ikeda. Artist Eri Osada returns to adapt the character designs for the big screen. To celebrate this announcement, both the original illustrator of the novels, Nekometal, and the manga artist, Banzai Kotobuki Daienkai, published commemorative illustrations on their social media accounts.
The extensive main voice cast will reprise their respective roles for this dangerous journey on the island, highlighting the return of:
- Chiyuki Miura as Yuuki.
The experienced protagonist who risks her life as a professional player and who recently broke the survival odds.
- Rena Motomura as Aoi and Inori Minase as Kinko.
Key participants who are part of the intricate ecosystem of the death games in which the plot unfolds.
- Haruka Sato as Kokuto and Mutsumi Tamura as Beniya.
Allies and rivals who must prove their survival instinct against the new rules imposed by the "Cloudy Beach" tournament.
About the work
Written by the talented Yushi Ukai and illustrated by Nekometal, this work managed to win the coveted Excellence Award at the 18th edition of the MF Bunko J Light Novel Newcomer Award. The publisher Kadokawa began publishing the printed volumes in November 2022, quickly climbing to obtain first place in the "New Titles" category of the prestigious Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! 2024 ranking. The franchise's success prompted a successful manga adaptation in 2023 and, more recently, the broadcast of its first television series earlier this year, which debuted with a special 60-minute format. This film marks the first major cinematic expansion of Yuuki's universe.
Synopsis of Shiboyugi: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table
The story centers on a society where "death games" have become a twisted source of income for those willing to bet their lives in exchange for large sums of money. The plot follows Yuuki, a young professional in this dark trade who, against all odds, managed to overcome the lethal "30-year wall curse," a statistical barrier that drastically reduces the survival chances of veteran players. In this new sequel film, Yuuki accepts a mysterious contract that takes her to a remote island in the middle of the ocean. There, along with seven other participants —including someone from her past— she must compete in an enigmatic and lethal tournament known as "Cloudy Beach." With no apparent escape and with rules constantly changing, Yuuki will have to push her deduction skills and survival instincts to the limit if she wishes to return alive and put food on her table.
Considering that Yuuki has already broken the lethal survival curse associated with her age, what kind of twisted psychological or physical challenges do you think await her on the isolated island of Cloudy Beach?
