Steins;Gate Re:Boot Sets August 20 Release Date: New Animations, UI, Music, and a Seventh Ending
Mages locks in a tentative 2026 launch and upgrades the classic with E-mote motion, redrawn visuals, and more life in Akihabara

We were already packing our gadgets for 2025. Then the date slipped to 2026. Now Mages has finally circled a new day on the calendar: August 20. Tentative, yes. But it feels like the kind of date you write twice, just in case.
August 20, and the return to Akihabara

Steins;Gate Re:Boot keeps part of its original DNA. The 2010 otaku slang is still there. The Akihabara vibe stays loud and specific. We still walk those familiar streets, but with cleaner shoes.

This reboot also arrives with a clear mission: make the story feel more alive without losing the charm that made the 2009 release stick in our heads.
What’s new in Steins;Gate Re:Boot (and what it changes)
Mages is stacking upgrades like it’s building a time machine out of patch notes:
The big upgrades
- Redrawn visuals and a revamped UI.
- Remade music by original composer Takeshi Abo.
- A new seventh ending (because six endings weren’t enough to emotionally confuse us).
- More character motion using the E-mote animation tool.

In the original Steins;Gate, motion was simpler. Mouths moved subtly. Sprites changed to show bigger gestures. It worked. But the reboot goes for fluid transitions: blinking, hair movement, and shifting expressions that can feel almost “VTuber”-like.
Kurisu, Mayuri, and the “bring them to life” approach
With the new animations and redesigns, characters like Kurisu and Mayuri look especially vibrant. It shows most when they interact. A tiny eyebrow shift. A pause. A look that lands faster than a full paragraph of dialogue.

The stated intent is clear: “bring characters to life” and elevate immersion. The reboot leans into that with motion and expression instead of only swapping artwork.
Platforms and launch plan
Steins;Gate Re:Boot is scheduled for August 20 on:
- Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
- PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- PC (Steam)
Now we pass the mic to you: do you prefer the original’s simpler sprite style, or do these more fluid animations sound like the upgrade you wanted? And where are we playing it—Switch 2, PS5, or Steam? Tell us, and share this with that friend who still quotes Akihabara slang at the worst possible time.
