Sekiro: No Defeat Anime Reveals Trailer and Confirms Theatrical Release
The animated adaptation of the action title will hit theaters in 2026 without using artificial intelligence.

Dying countless times to memorize an enemy's attack pattern is the pure essence of FromSoftware's works. Translating that methodical tension from the controls to a cinema screen requires extremely precise technical direction. This Monday, a new trailer was released for the anime adaptation of the action video game developed by FromSoftware, Sekiro: No Defeat. The production committee announced that the project will debut in Japanese theaters during 2026, before joining the global catalog of the Crunchyroll platform.

The promotional video revealed the use of the instrumental theme "Blu," originally composed by the late musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, as the central sound piece. The producers took advantage of the update to issue a direct statement regarding their working methods. The management team confirmed that the film will exclusively use traditional hand-drawn 2D animation and ruled out the intervention of artificial intelligence at any stage of development.

About the work
The original video game, directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and published under the Activision label, debuted on last-generation consoles and PC in March 2019. Its high level of technical demand and innovative deflection-based combat system managed to sell over 2 million copies in less than ten days. The title dominated the action market and cemented a solid player base that was waiting for this narrative expansion into the realm of the seventh art.
Sekiro: No Defeat Synopsis
The plot unfolds in a grim version of Japan's Sengoku period at the end of the 16th century. The story follows the steps of the One-Armed Wolf, a disfigured ninja warrior rescued from the brink of death. His sole life mission is to recover his young master Kuro, a lord descended from an ancient sacred lineage, and seek revenge against the high command of the Ashina clan. Equipped with a multi-functional prosthetic arm and lethal stealth skills, the shinobi must face armed armies and colossal beasts in a constant cycle of resurrections.
Do you think the cinematic format will allow for the adaptation of the combat's brutality without suffering any kind of censorship from distributors?
