We’ve all seen partners learn the ropes on the job. Now we’re watching two people learn the ropes of love. And yes, it looks just as chaotic as you’d expect.

A teaser drops, and January 2027 suddenly feels real

A teaser promotional video for the TV anime adaptation of Ms. Isshiki Wants to Know About Love (Isshiki-san wa Koi o Shiritai) has arrived. With it, we get the big three: main cast, more staff, and a clear premiere window: January 2027.

We’re not saying we’ve started counting the months. We’re just saying our calendar is suddenly very “busy.”

The couple (sort of): cast and characters

At the center of this romantic comedy, we have two people who look like they’d be great at paperwork and terrible at flirting. Which is, frankly, a perfect setup.

Main cast

  • Riko Akechi as Isshiki Rinna Milford
  • Shūichirō Umeda as Meishi Rokutanda

Isshiki is an elite, straight-laced officer who joined the police at 17. The twist? She hasn’t experienced romantic love. Rokutanda is kind, scatterbrained, and—how do we put this politely—not exactly a detective prodigy. Together, they become a couple-ish unit as they try to figure out what romance even means.

Have we all met a Rokutanda at some point? Or have we been the Rokutanda?

Who’s building this love story behind the scenes

The newly revealed staff lineup gives us a clearer picture of the anime’s creative direction:

  • Director: Kazuya Komai (episode director on Tenjho Tenge, BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, Pita-Ten)
  • Series Composition: Deko Akao (Komi Can't Communicate, Noragami, The Case Study of Vanitas)
  • Character Design: Shōhei Hamaguchi (Glamorous Heroes)
  • Animation Production: Sakura Create

With that mix, we’re expecting comedy that moves fast, emotions that sneak up on us, and at least one scene where someone confidently says the wrong thing and immediately regrets it. Classic.

The manga’s journey so far

Ayune Araragi launched the manga in Monthly Shōnen Ace in June 2020. The series has kept rolling, and the ninth compiled volume was published on October 23. For English readers, Yen Press has licensed the manga.

Call to action: If we’re in for a slow-burn romance between two absolute newbies, do we want maximum awkwardness—or maximum sweetness? Tell us: is this premise overlooked gold, or a recipe for lovable chaos?
