The technical production of this action comedy marks an important milestone, as it will be the first television series primarily animated by the fledgling studio CUE. This production company was recently founded in 2023 through a strategic partnership between entertainment giant DMM and experienced creatives from the legendary studio Production I.G. The director's chair is occupied by Hiro Kaburagi, while the original character designs are being stylized for the screen by Miho Daidoji.

About the work

Master Tadatoshi Fujimaki, revered in the industry for being the mastermind behind the colossal sports success Kuroko's Basketball, began serializing this irreverent mix of mafia and school life in the pages of the mythical Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from Shueisha in April 2023. The fast-paced story managed to build a solid reader base before officially concluding its publication on September 1 of last year, compiling a total of 13 volumes. To celebrate the final closure of its print cycle, the last compiled volume went on sale in Japan on December 4, simultaneously accompanied by the release of a companion novel titled Kill Blue Secret Report.

Kill Blue Synopsis

The plot centers on Juzo Ogami, a mature and bitter man who operates as a legendary hitman in the underworld, famous for his implacable precision and his inability to fail a contract. His bloody professional routine goes out the window when, after an incident with an experimental bioweapon, he wakes up inexplicably transformed into a teenager. Completely disoriented and without exact memories of how to reverse the process, Juzo concludes that the only way to infiltrate the responsible organization and discover the cure is by returning to the last place a hired killer would ever set foot: high school. Forced to enroll as an ordinary student, the world's deadliest hitman must suppress his killing instincts, try to fit in with loud youngsters, survive surprise exams, and protect his new and innocent classmates while executing his secret and mysterious mission of revenge.

Considering the immense international popularity of groups like aespa and RIIZE, do you think the inclusion of K-pop bands in anime openings and endings will become the new standard for major shonen productions?
