The world of The Irregular at Magic High School keeps moving. And it does not move quietly. It steps forward, arc by arc, like a series that refuses to sit still for even a tea break.

Hazumi Takeda has now closed the Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei: Invasion-hen manga adaptation. The final chapter appeared in the September issue of Monthly G Fantasy. The story covers the 26th novel volume of Tsutomu Satou's light novel series. Next month, Takeda will return with a new adaptation: Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei: Mirai-hen, which adapts the 31st novel volume, also known as the Future Arc.

A fast-moving manga schedule

This is not Takeda's first trip through this franchise. In fact, Takeda has been busy enough to make even a commuter train look lazy.

Here is the recent path:

  • Invasion Arc manga launch: May 2025
  • Second collected volume: released on March 26
  • Future Arc adaptation: begins next month

The original 26th novel volume shipped in Japan in August 2018. It was later published in English by Yen Press on February 10 this year. Meanwhile, the 31st novel volume arrived in Japan in April 2020, but it has not yet been released in English.

Takeda's broader Mahōka track record

Takeda has already handled several other corners of this universe. The mangaka previously adapted the Master Clans Council Arc, which ran from March 2020 to September 2024. That series ended after nine compiled volumes. Takeda also drew the Masaki Ichijō Transfers Schools Arc, which began in November 2024 and ended in April 2025 after one volume.

So yes, this artist has been sprinting through the franchise at a pace that would make a magic school timer blush.

The earlier manga covered the novel volumes 17-18, while the later one adapted volume 19. The naming can get a little tangled, but the story map remains clear: Takeda keeps returning to deepen the same magical world from different angles.

Where the original series stands

Tsutomu Satou's original The Irregular at Magic High School light novel series began in 2008 and ended with its 32nd volume in September 2020. Two sequel series followed in October 2020 and January 2021. Each sequel now has four volumes.

Yen Press publishes the original novel series in English, along with Yu Mori's spinoff manga The Honor Student at Magic High School.

An anime franchise that keeps growing

The franchise has also stayed active on screens. The TV anime first premiered in April 2014 with 26 episodes. A second season, The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc, aired in 2020. Then came the film The irregular at magic high school The Movie: The Girl Who Summons the Stars in 2017.

The Honor Student at Magic High School also became a 13-episode TV anime in 2021. The third TV season of The Irregular at Magic High School premiered in April 2024, with Crunchyroll streaming it as it aired in both subtitled and dubbed versions.

More recently, the film Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei: Yotsuba Keishō-hen opened in Japan on May 8. And on June 5, the official anime site teased that a Part II is on the way, though details remain under wraps.

So the series keeps expanding. The manga advances. The anime continues. And the magical family drama still has room to surprise us.

What do we think about this new Future Arc adaptation? Are we ready for another round of Mahōka storytelling, or do we need a few more spells and coffee first? Tell us what you think.
