Girls und Panzer das Finale Part 5 Sets October 9 Premiere in Japan, Adds Dolby Cinema Screenings
The fifth movie in the six-part finale rolls out with Dolby Atmos, 4DX, MX4D, and standard showings—plus the series’ first Dolby Cinema run

We blink, and the engines are warm again. A new teaser is out for the fifth film in the six-partGirls und Panzer das Finale series, and it comes with a date we can actually circle on the calendar without smudging tank grease.
Release date and formats: bigger sound, more rumble

Girls und Panzer das Finale part 5 opens in Japan on October 9. And it’s not arriving quietly.
Screenings are planned in:
- Dolby Cinema (first time this film series plays in Dolby Cinema)
- Dolby Atmos
- 4DX
- MX4D
- Plus regular screenings
We know what you’re thinking: do we choose the seat that shakes, or the one that makes every cannon blast sound like it’s parked next to us? Why not both, if our schedule survives it?
How we got here: a quick route through the franchise
Before we jump into part 5, we’ve already travelled a long road—on tracks.
- 2012: The Girls und Panzer TV anime premiered with 12 episodes.
- 2015: The follow-up film Girls und Panzer der Film opened in Japan.
Then came Girls und Panzer das Finale, built as a six-part theatrical run:
- Part 1 (Dec 2017): New faces from BC Freedom High School enter a winter battle.
- Part 2 (Jun 2019): The battle between Ooarai Girls Academy and BC Freedom High School reaches its conclusion, while other schools’ matchups also take the spotlight.
- Part 3 (Mar 2021): Six more schools compete across three additional battlegrounds.
- Part 4 (Oct 2023): Ooarai continues the match against Continuation (Jaktkosota) High School after key losses early in the fight, and we also see Kuromorimine vs. St. Gloriana, with Erika leading as Maho’s successor and Darjeeling in her last match.
More tracks on the map: spinoffs and a “pilot video” tease
While we wait for part 5, the franchise hasn’t exactly been sitting still at a red light.
There’s also a four-part theatrical anime project based on Maruko Nii’s spinoff manga Girls und Panzer: Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu!, which opened (in order) on December 26, January 30, March 6, and April 10. The manga began in 2013 in Monthly Comic Alive, focusing on the day-to-day lives of the Ooarai girls and other students—because even tank commanders presumably have errands.
And screenings of part 4 included a “pilot video” based on Girls und Panzer: Ribon no Musha, centered on new protagonist Shizuka Tsuruki in a new school.
Our move: set a reminder for October 9, and line up a rewatch so we roll in prepared. Are you going for Dolby Cinema, 4DX, or the classic standard screening—what’s your pick?
