We love a good plot twist, don't we? Just when we thought we had our weekend viewing sorted with the latest anime releases, the world of Firefly Wedding (Hotaru no Yomeiri) drops a massive surprise. It seems that Oreko Tachibana’s gripping tale is leaping from the manga panels to the real world.

A double dose of drama

We have just learned that a live-action adaptation is officially in the works. Fuji TV will be bringing this intense story to life in 2027. Honestly, can you imagine the tension of that proposal being played out by real actors? It sounds like the perfect recipe for a binge-watch session, even if it makes us a little nervous just thinking about it.

Why we are obsessed with this story:

  • The stakes: Satoko is a noblewoman with a ticking clock and a very short life expectancy.
  • The twist: She gets targeted by an assassin named Shinpei and decides the best way to survive is to propose marriage.
  • The humor: Watching an assassin take the vow "until death do us part" way too literally is both terrifying and hilarious.

For those of you who prefer to keep things animated, the Firefly Wedding anime just debuted this past Friday on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block. We are already glued to the screen watching how the story unfolds.

What does the future hold?

The manga journey is reaching its grand finale. With the 13th and final volume arriving on October 19, we are saying goodbye to a story that kept us on the edge of our seats since 2023. At least we have the anime and the upcoming live-action project to keep our hearts racing.

We have to ask: do you prefer the fast-paced intensity of the manga, or are you waiting for the live-action to see the characters in flesh and blood? Let us know what you think of this adaptation news in the comments!
