Crunchyroll Says Goodbye to Original Switch: No Switch 2 Support in Sight

You wake up, grab your Switch, and try to open Crunchyroll. Surprise: the app has an expiration date. Nintendo lists October 30, 2026 as the final day for Crunchyroll on the original Nintendo Switch.

If you already have the Crunchyroll app on your Switch, you can keep using it until October 30, 2026. After that, no more anime on that console. Nintendo made the listing official. The clock is ticking.

What About the Switch 2?

Here comes the painful part. Crunchyroll's customer service page says the service is not available for the Nintendo Switch 2 right now. The console does not support several video-on-demand services. That affects multiple video apps, including Crunchyroll. No announcements exist for a future Switch 2 launch. You buy a new console and lose your anime app. That stings.

Where You Can Still Watch

Don't panic. Crunchyroll still works on Xbox and PlayStation. You can also use mobile devices, media players, Smart TVs, TVs, service providers, and web browsers. The service is not dead. It just skipped the Switch 2 party.

Crunchyroll has been busy. Earlier this month, the company announced a collaboration with Appning by FORVIA. That deal brings Crunchyroll streaming to select vehicles in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, India, and Australia. It starts with BMW and MINI cars, then expands to over 40 automotive brands. So you might watch anime in a car before you watch it on a Switch 2.

And the wallet feels it. Crunchyroll raised prices for all U.S. subscription tiers in February. Free ad-supported streaming stopped last December. Now the Switch app gets a funeral date. You pay more, get less free stuff, and lose a console option.
