Tono to Inu

Set in Japan's tumultuous Warring States period, the anime Tono to Inu follows the life of Tono, a man once revered as a fearsome god on the battlefield. Now fallen into poverty and obscurity, he lives a humble existence in a tenement house, his legendary past a distant memory.

His quiet, struggling life takes an unexpected turn when he takes in a stray dog. Contrary to expectations, this is no tale of a loyal pet. The dog is willful, unrestrained, and completely unimpressed by Tono's former glory, often pushing the ex-warrior around.
