The massively popular online game Elder Tales becomes an inescapable reality when thirty thousand players find themselves trapped within its world. Now living as their game avatars, veteran strategist Shiroe must navigate a new existence where magic is real, monsters are lethal, and the once-static NPCs are now living, breathing People of the Land.
With no clear path home, Shiroe and his companions, including the cheerful guardian Naotsugu and the formidable assassin Akatsuki, must use their wits and game knowledge to survive. The anime masterfully explores the sociological and political challenges of building a new society from scratch, focusing on economics, diplomacy, and community in a world where the old rules no longer apply.
