If you were one of those people lighting candles every day hoping for the imminent announcement of the third season of My Dress-Up Darling (Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru), it's time to blow out the flame and sit down for a long wait. After the second season finished airing in September 2025, the hype was through the roof, but the production team at CloverWorks studio has just given us a bittersweet reality check about the future of our favorite romcom.

Quality over quantity for the world of cosplay

The inside scoop came from an interview with Shota Umehara himself, the producer who spearheaded the first two seasons of the series. Speaking bluntly, the creative confessed that the production status for a new sequel is currently a total blank. This means there are no scripts, no schedules, and they haven't even started planning the sketches. The reason is as raw as it is respectable: they flatly refuse to deliver a mediocre or rushed anime. It's worth remembering that in the second season alone, the animation team had to design and illustrate over 200 different cosplay outfits to ensure Marin Kitagawa looked perfect on screen.

The manga has ended, but patience will be key

Despite the cold shower, all is not lost. Umehara clarified that if the stars align and the right conditions for time and budget are met, he would be the first one wanting to make the continuation. There is plenty of source material, especially considering that the manga written and illustrated by Shinichi Fukuda concluded its main story in March 2025. The ball is now in the production committee's court, as they must decide if the beautiful romance and development of Wakana Gojo and Marin deserve the budget for a worthy conclusion in television format.

Knowing that the animation team prefers to take a multi-year hiatus rather than lower the quality, would you be willing to wait until 2028 or 2029 to see a third season that lives up to its predecessors?
