Sakamoto Days Live Action: A Closer Look

We present you the second preview of the live-action movie Sakamoto Days, adapted from Yuuto Suzuki's manga. This new trailer, recently published on the official movie website, highlights the thrilling action scenes and gives a glimpse into Sakamoto's everyday life.

Cast and Release Date

The movie will premiere in Japan on April 29. Ren Meguro, a member of Snow Man, plays Tarō Sakamoto, and Fumiya Takahashi embodies Shin Asakura. Meguro, a long-time fan of the original manga, stated that he got involved in Sakamoto Days for personal reasons, beyond his desire to convey something to the audience.

The cast also includes Aya Ueto as Aoi Sakamoto, Tarō's wife, and Miyu Yoshimoto as Hana Sakamoto, their daughter. The rest of the cast are Mayū Yokota as Lu Shaotang, Junki Tozuka as Heisuke Mashimo, Akihisa Shiono as Kashima, and Keisuke Watanabe as Natsuki Seiba. The assassins of the Nagumo Order, Shishiba and Osaragi are played by Takumi Kitamura, Yūsei Yagi, and Meru Nukumi respectively.

Behind the Scenes

Yūichi Fukuda, known for his work on the live-action adaptations of Gintama and Under Ninja, is in charge of the movie's direction and script. According to Fukuda, although the movie still lacks CG effects and music, it is already edited and ready to be screened in theaters. The direction of the action sequences is handled by Keiya Tabuchi.

The Origin of the Manga and its Adaptations

Yuuto Suzuki published a one-shot titled "Sakamoto" in Jump Giga magazine in December 2019, and launched the main manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in November 2020. The manga began its "final battle" in August 2025. Currently, Viz Media and MANGA Plus publish the manga in English digitally, and Viz also publishes it in print format.

The story follows Taro Sakamoto, an unmatched assassin who left his life of violence for love. Now, he is an overweight family man running a store in his neighborhood. Can he protect his family when danger knocks at his door?

In addition to the movie, the manga has inspired a spin-off titled Sakamoto Holidays, a couple of novels, and an anime adaptation that premiered in January 2025. It has also given rise to a puzzle game for smartphones released in April 2025.
