Can you imagine a Japan fractured into three kingdoms, where a bureaucrat becomes the most brilliant strategist? That's exactly what Nippon Sangoku brings us, the upcoming anime adaptation that promises to revolutionize the historical genre with a futuristic twist.

A Story Blending Past and Future

We find ourselves in a near-future Japan, but not the one you'd expect. Civilization has regressed after nuclear war, natural disasters, and a corrupt government. The result is a nation divided into three states fighting for supremacy, recreating a new Three Kingdoms era.

Amidst this chaos emerges Aoteru Misumi, who starts as a modest local bureaucrat. But don't underestimate his appearance, as he possesses encyclopedic knowledge and extraordinary eloquence. His goal is ambitious: the reunification of Japan. Thus begins the legend of the man who will go down in history as a prodigious strategist.

The Creative Team Behind the Legend

The direction is handled by Kazuaki Terasawa, whose work on the second season of The Ancient Magus' Bride and on the episode "Woke-Up-as-a-Girl Syndrome" from Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 has earned him recognition. Alongside him, Takahiko Abiru, known for his work as animation director in both seasons of The Ancient Magus' Bride and character designer in both seasons of Vinland Saga, is in charge of character design and chief animation direction.

To celebrate the announcement, both artists shared commemorative illustrations that are already exciting the otaku community.

A Stellar Cast to Bring the Characters to Life

The voices that will give soul to this epic story already have names. Who are the chosen ones?

Kenshō Ono will voice our protagonist, Aoteru Misumi. Meanwhile, Asami Seto will play Saki Higashimachi. The main trio is completed by Takashi Nagasako as Denki Taira. And as the cherry on top, the anime's narration will be handled by Megumi Han.

The Manga That Conquered Awards and Nominations

The original work by Ikka Matsuki doesn't arrive on the small screen without an impressive resume. Published since 2021 in the Manga ONE app and Shogakukan's Ura Sunday website, it already has six compiled volumes.

Its quality has been recognized on multiple fronts: it was included in the 23rd annual "Book of the Year" by Da Vinci magazine, nominated for the 16th Manga Taisho Awards in 2023, and listed among the top 20 manga for male readers in Takarajimasha's Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guide.

What Do We Expect From This Adaptation?

The combination of a post-apocalyptic setting with elements of Japanese feudal history is, without a doubt, a refreshing proposal. The contrast between lost technology and ancient war tactics promises moments of great narrative tension.

Furthermore, the fact that the protagonist is not a traditional warrior, but a bureaucrat with a brilliant mind, adds a layer of psychological and strategic intrigue that could differentiate this anime from other works in the genre.

We are very eager to see how this story unfolds. How about you? Are you drawn to the idea of a futuristic Japan divided into three kingdoms? Do you think Aoteru Misumi will have what it takes to unify the nation? Share your thoughts with us!
