Square Enix has gifted us a third adventure video for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, and this time the game's vocations take center stage. Because yes, friends, in this RPG it's not enough to just swing swords wildly: you need to choose a profession.

The remake of this classic from the original PlayStation from 2000 (which is not the same one that came out for 3DS, mind you) is about to land on our consoles and computers. On February 5th we'll be able to enjoy it on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and Microsoft Store. So there's no excuse not to play it.

A Demo Worth Gold (Well, a Dress)

Since January 7th we've had a playable demo available that, in addition to letting us try the game, allows us to transfer our progress to the full version. As if that weren't enough, those who try it will receive a Day Off Dress for Maribel. Because in Dragon Quest you also need to be fashionable, obviously.

New Features That Will Make Our Lives Easier

This remake isn't just a graphical facelift. Square Enix has worked on several aspects:

The story has been improved and streamlined, which is appreciated in a game that originally could be quite dense. Now we have the "Moonlighting" system, which allows us to combine two vocations simultaneously. Be a warrior and mage at the same time? Go ahead.

They've added the "Monster Master" vocation, for those who always dreamed of commanding an army of creatures. And, of course, it includes quality of life improvements that will make the experience much smoother than in the year 2000.

Editions for All Tastes (and Budgets)

The Collector's Edition comes loaded: SteelBook case, a Smile Slime plushie (which will surely end up on your shelf next to the others), a ship-in-a-bottle figure, and three paid DLC packs.

If you prefer digital, the Digital Deluxe Edition gives you 48 hours of early access, a unique outfit for Ruff, and those same three DLC packs. Because waiting is for the weak.

A Bit of History for Context

The original Dragon Quest VII arrived on PlayStation in Japan in 2000 and in North America in 2001. Then, in 2013, Square Enix released a remake for 3DS in Japan that reached the West in September 2016 with new graphics and a renewed translation.

This new Reimagined is a completely separate project from that 3DS remake, following the line of HD-2D remakes that have been so successful. In fact, the remakes of Dragon Quest I & II in this style were released on October 30th for the same platforms.

The video is now available and shows in detail how the different vocations work. If you're a fan of the series or simply enjoy classic RPGs with a modern touch, this is your moment.
