Danger of Bankruptcy! Studio KAI Reports Million-Dollar Losses in 2025
Studio KAI reported severe financial losses in 2025 and its debts already exceed its assets.

Alarms have just gone off at another production company within the anime industry. Through Japan's Official Gazette, the fiscal year 2025 results for Studio KAI were revealed, and the outlook looks quite grim. The company reported a final net loss of 565 million yen, marking a painful freefall into the red that calls into question the future survival of this animation house.
A debt that exceeds what they have in their pockets
The most concerning part of this report is not just that they doubled their deficit compared to the 248 million lost during the previous year. The true distress signal is that the studio, which is a direct subsidiary of ADK Emotions, has officially entered a situation where its liabilities exceed the value of its own assets. Basically, they owe more money than they have or can back up—a critical position that, in the business world, is usually the prelude to a potential bankruptcy if a miraculous rescue from the parent company does not arrive.

The projects that failed to save the fiscal year
Throughout the period ending in December 2025, the studio was certainly not sitting idle. Their list of major works included high-profile adaptations such as Taiyō Yori mo Mabushii Hoshi and the highly anticipated return to the screen with the new version of Jigoku Sensei Nūbē, in addition to a special project for the 150th anniversary of the Shimadzu Corporation. Unfortunately, having recognizable names on the programming schedule was not enough to avoid this tragic financial collapse in its sixth year of continuous operations.
Considering the brutal economic reality faced by many production companies despite releasing popular series, do you think the studio will manage to recover from this heavy blow, or are we witnessing the first steps toward its imminent final closure?
