The dark side of the internet has just claimed a new victim, and this time it was a highly respected figure within the manga industry. Veteran mangakaJun Tanaka, 60 years old and known for his classic work Nacchan and for illustrating successful educational books on Japanese history, openly shared news that broke our hearts: he lost absolutely all of his savings after falling for a sophisticated cryptocurrency investment scam.

An illusion of easy money that ended in tragedy

The nightmare began when his wife found an online advertisement promising a supposed side job, ideal for generating income from home with a few simple clicks. The scheme involved helping with virtual operations, primarily handling Ethereum. By following daily instructions, the platform showed Tanaka how his money was steadily growing; a deception so well-crafted that he admitted his judgment was completely clouded. In a span of just two months, the scammers emptied his wallet, stealing around 5.8 million yen, which amounts to a painful 36,700 dollars.

A sad warning to protect his followers

Through his social media, the artist shared his despair with raw phrases such as "I'm finished," reflecting that this brutal online fraud has left him without the funds he had built up over a lifetime. Far from hiding it out of shame, the author decided to make his ruinous experience public to warn as many people as possible about how dangerous, silent, and convincing these modern theft schemes can be.

Knowing that digital scams are becoming increasingly advanced and manage to deceive even well-prepared individuals, what measures do you take to protect your information and your money when browsing the internet?
