Ascendance of a Bookworm: Everything You Need to Know About Its New Season
The fantasy bible returns with new directors, a crucial arc, and a luxury production

We are excited to announce that the long-awaited continuation of Ascendance of a Bookworm finally has a release date. April 4, 2026, will mark the beginning of Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke, a new stage that promises to keep us glued to the screen for a full half-year.
A Changing of the Guard in Direction
For this new installment, Wit Studio takes the reins of production with Yoshiaki Iwasaki as director. He succeeds Mitsuru Hongō, who directed the previous three seasons. It's a significant change, but the essence remains intact thanks to the return of Mariko Kunisawa as screenwriter and MICHIRU in musical composition.
Character design will be in the talented hands of Aiko Minowa, known for her work on After the Rain and The Ancient Magus' Bride. The team is completed by professionals like Makiho Kondō in color design and Jun Watanabe, who returns as sound director.
The Story Takes a Monumental Turn
The official synopsis places us in Ehrenfest, where our protagonist, now known as Rozemyne, must face her destiny. To protect her family and friends from the lower city, she agrees to become the adopted daughter of an archduke. She leaves behind not only her home but even her name: Myne.
We delve into a noble society where common sense is conspicuously absent. Armed only with her love for books and her devotion to family, Rozemyne begins what promises to be the ultimate crusade of the most stubborn bibliophile we have ever known.
The Returning Cast
The voices that brought these beloved characters to life are returning. Yuka Iguchi will once again voice Rozemyne (formerly Myne), while Show Hayami reprises his role as the ever-intriguing Ferdinand. Their chemistry was one of the pillars of the previous series, and we hope they maintain that level.
Technical and Broadcast Details
The series will air for two consecutive cours, which translates to approximately 24 episodes. The premiere will be on April 4 at 17:30 (JST) on Yomiuri TV and NTV. Two days later, on April 6, it will arrive on Tokyo MX at 21:25 (JST).
The main trailer is already available and gives us a preview of "Pages", the opening theme performed by Little Glee Monster. The revealed key visual shows a more mature Rozemyne, ready to face the challenges of the noble court.
The Phenomenon Behind the Screen
It's easy to forget that it all started as a web novel in 2013. Miya Kazuki created a universe that has sold over 13 million copies across physical and digital formats. The main story concluded in December 2023 with its 33rd volume, but the universe continues to expand.
There is currently a spin-off, Hannelore no Kizokuin Gonensei, which began in 2017 and continues to be published. Furthermore, the manga adaptations of the different parts of the novel are ongoing, with artists like Suzuka, Ryō Namino, and Hikaru Katsuki bringing the story to graphic format.
A Legacy That Transcends Formats
The franchise has demonstrated its versatility. In addition to the anime and manga, a stage musical premiered in 2024 and was performed in Tokyo and Osaka. It's rare to see an intellectual property that works so well across so many different media.
For international fans, J-Novel Club continues to publish both the light novels and the manga adaptations in English, ensuring Rozemyne's story reaches readers worldwide.
Why Is This Season Crucial?
This new stage represents a turning point in the story. It's not just another season; it's the moment when Myne definitively leaves her previous life behind to face the challenges of nobility. The change in animation studio and director suggests a visual and narrative evolution in line with the protagonist's transformation.
The production of two consecutive cours indicates confidence from the producers in the material. It's not a timid bet, but a substantial investment in one of the most consistent fantasy series of recent years.
We prepare to follow Rozemyne in what promises to be her most dangerous and exciting adventure yet. The girl who just wanted to read books must now navigate the treacherous waters of noble politics. And we have the privilege of accompanying her on every page of this new chapter.
