Shakugan no Shana

Sakai Yuji's ordinary high school life is shattered when he stumbles upon a hidden war raging within his own city. He witnesses people frozen in eerie blue flames and is attacked by monstrous beings. He is saved by a mysterious girl with fiery red hair and eyes, who wields a massive sword. She calls herself Shana, a Flame Haze warrior.

Shana reveals a devastating truth to Yuji: his existence has already been consumed. He is now a Torch, a temporary replacement for his former self, slowly burning out. To make matters stranger, Yuji is a special kind of Torch known as a Mystes, containing a powerful treasure within his own soul. Thrust into a conflict between Flame Hazes and the dimension-devouring Guze no Tomogara, Yuji's fading existence becomes the center of an eternal struggle, with the determined Shana as his unlikely protector.
