Mononoke: Karakasa

Mononoke: Karakasa is the first film in the Mononoke movie trilogy. The anime follows Asa and Kame, two young women who form a quick bond on their first day as maidservants within the opulent and secluded Ooku—the inner palace and harem of Lord Tenshi, where men are forbidden on pain of death.

Behind the palace's luxurious rituals and beauty, they discover a world of hidden schemes and rivalries. Their new lives are further unsettled by the arrival of a mysterious, wandering Medicine Seller, whose presence coincides with the emergence of a strange and supernatural threat lurking within the palace walls.
